To the Fiesta - Day 38 - 17 hours ago
We were kept awake much of last night by guitar-playing pilgrims, but were cheered outside town when we saw a signpost declaring 'Santiago - 825km'. It sounds a impressively long way, but I'm glad there's no pointer for Istanbul. After several more whitewashed villages, we climb up to the Alto de Perdon, a long ridge topped by a line of graceful wind turbines. At the top of the pass is a cut-out steel sculpture of a motley group of pilgrims,

Patan's Durbar Square Sans Camera - 20 hours ago
My first digital camera was a Christmas gift from my parents in 2006. I had been receiving compliments on the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Digital Elph all along my trip, and had been very happy with the photo quality. I was a quick draw as Gela and others who spent any length of time with me could attest. Unfortunately, the camera started to go haywire toward the end of my trek.

Alive in PNG - 1 day and 14 hours ago
I can't believe they have internet here. It isn't great, but I can do simple things. So far, my PNG experience has been amazing. The Port Moresby airport is far, far from the worst airport in the world. (which I saw it was on one list). I'm on Kimbe Bay on New Britian Island. The people here are great. The food is great. The diving is great. The other guests I've met are great. I did 3 dives today and got massively sunburned.

Touring Swayambhunath Stupa - 1 day and 20 hours ago
From the restaurant rooftop in Durbar Square, I could see Swayambhunath Stupa as it was up on a hill to the west. I grabbed a taxi for yet another kamikaze ride through narrow streets filled with buzzing motorcycles and pedestrians. For most of my taxi rides around the city and valley, I've paid about 150-200 rupees ($2-3), which is probably 30% more than the locals. I've found the best strategy for landing a lower rate is to ask Nepali shopkeepers for their estimation,

Kathmandu's Durbar Square - 3 days ago
Rarely am I keen to follow the city walking tours in the Lonely Planet guides, however I had a feeling the one from Thamel to Durbar Square in Kathmandu would be interesting. As I left the tourist area, I soon found myself passing Buddhist monasteries, stupas, and Hindu temples left and right. Walking through the older part of the city, you felt as though little had changed over the centuries. Daily life was on display, up close and personal,

Daily Travel Photo - Rennell, Solomon Islands - 4 days ago
This photo was taken on the plane as it was approaching the island of Rennell. Rennell is a raised coral atoll. There is a 100 to 300m drop between the top of the island and the beach all the way around the island making it very difficult to get to. Originally posted on Everything Everywhere Travel Blog . Corfu Trail, Greece: Trekking Toward Home - 4 days ago
Odysseus' last stop before he sailed home to the island of Ithica, and the island home for Shakespeare's The Tempest , Corfu is the most verdant of Greece's islands. Sage green olive groves dotted with tall, conical cypress trees smother the rolling hills of the island until the land ends abruptly in the emerald waters of the Ionian Sea. The English love it, the Germans crave it, and the Italians practically live here.

Travel Water Purification System - 4 days ago
Travel Water Purification System I normally drink the water on planet earth, however contrary to most travelers I am prepared and ready to optimize my health safety. This is a video explaining briefly your best option, what is feasible in all countries, this system does not require you return home to buy filters for something that broke weeks ago. Replaceable, sustainable, and realistic, no blowing hot air up your skirt.

Thangka Shopping - 4 days ago
Upon my return to Kathmandu, I dedicated a full day to thangka shopping. Thangkas are traditional Tibetan Buddhist paintings made on cloth. They are often framed with a brocade and depict one of five different topics: Deities (like Buddha, Tara, etc.), Life of Buddha, Wheel of Life, and two types of Mandalas. I've wanted one for years, however at the one Himalayan store in Washington, DC I found, they were around $500. The selection was also quite limited.

Buenos Aires: How The Lost Girls Began... - 4 days ago
ADP: Yesterday night, after making a vain attempt to clean up some random files on my trusty iBook, I came across this destination article that I wrote for a now-defunct magazine called Travel Savvy . The piece never did see the light of day"the magazine folded in 2005, just days after I submitted it to my editor"and until now it's just been languishing in my computer's hard drive. Sure,

Isla del Sol - 5 days ago
Day: 407 We headed off for a day trip to Isla del Sol today, where supposedly the sun was born. It didn´t seem that way excessively, but it was warm and we manage to hike the islands tall peaks, and sit in the sun with a chilly breeze before we our six hours were up. We piled back into the ferry back to Copacabana with dozens of other travellers and proceeded to take the worlds slowest moving boat back to our hostal. 17 kilometers (10 miles) in an hour and a half.

Haircut, Church, Kayak - 5 days ago
Day: 406 After my morning drug routine to try to keep myself alive, Felicia and I were headed down into town to see what we could find for the day since we were feeling better now. First things first, I hit up the local pelequeria for a $1 haircut where the woman went as far as straight edge razoring my sideburns and the back of my neck. It was easily one of the more intense haircuts of my life and I went above and beyond and tipped %50 (so $1.50 total).
